Saint Mary's beats Loyola Marymount in WCC tourney quarters

LAS VEGAS (AP) Dane Pineau had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Emmett Naar scored 14 with six assists to help top-seeded Saint Mary's beat Loyola Marymount 60-48 in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference tournament Saturday night.

The Gaels will play No. 4 seed Pepperdine (18-12) in the semifinals Monday. The Waves beat Saint Mary's (26-4) in both regular-season matchups this season.

Loyola Marymount (14-17) led 29-25 at the break, but went cold in the second half.

Steven Haney made a 3-pointer to put the Lions up 40-38 with 10:58 to play, but Saint Mary's hit three 3s during a 14-1 run that gave the Gaels a 52-41 lead with 4:59 left.

LMU, which went nearly seven minutes without a field goal, trailed by at least nine the rest of the way.

Saint Mary's shot 59 percent from the field, while the Lions hit just 8 of 30 (26.7 percent), in the second half.

Haney led LMU with 19 points.
