Nicholls State outlasts McNeese State in 2OT 94-90

KATY, Texas (AP) T.J. Carpenter scored 22 points and seventh-seeded Nicholls State outlasted No. 6 seed McNeese State 94-90 in double-overtime in a Southland Conference first round matchup on Wednesday night.

The Colonels (11-22) will face third-seeded Sam Houston State (17-14) on Thursday in the second round.

Nicholls State's Ja'Dante' Frye dunked with 1:08 left in the second overtime to break a tie at 90, then Quinton Thomas' one-handed push shot in the lane made it a four-point game with 19 seconds left.

McNeese State missed three shots in the last 12 seconds.

Nicholls State made three free throws in the last eight seconds of the first overtime - the last two by Frye - to force the second. Frye's free throws with 11 seconds left in regulation forced overtime.

Frye finished with 18 points and Liam Thomas scored a career-high 16 for Nicholls State.

McNeese State (9-20) was led by Jarren Greenwood with 23 points and Jamaya Burr with 21 points and nine boards.

There were a combined 54 fouls called. Four players fouled out and two others had four apiece.
