Eddie Jordan has been dismissed as head coach of the Rutgers men’s basketball team, the school announced Thursday.

“I have decided that we need new leadership for our men’s basketball program,” University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Patrick Hobbs said in a statement. “Rutgers University is deeply appreciative of Coach Jordan’s efforts these past three years. He is and will always remain a valued member of the Rutgers Community.”

Jordan took over as head coach of the program in 2013 after the firing of Mike Rice. He accumulated a 29–68 record over the course of his three seasons with the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers finished the 2015–16 season with an overall record of 7–25 and a 1–17 mark in league play, coming in last in the Big Ten.

At the time of his hiring, Jordan signed a six-year contract with the team. According to the school, the search for his replacement will begin immediately.
