Savannah State pulls away late, beats Bethune-Cookman 57-50

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Javaris Jenkins scored five of his 12 points in the final 51 seconds to help Savannah State hold back Bethune-Cookman's late rally for a 57-50 victory on Thursday night in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal.

No. 5 seed Savannah State (16-14) moves on to play top-seeded Hampton on Friday.

Chris Martin added 10 points and Jenkins finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

Mario Moody scored 14 points and Jordan Potts chipped in 13 for fourth-seeded Bethune-Cookman (14-18), which has lost four straight conference tournament games.

The Wildcats used a 25-9 run and led 48-43 with five minutes remaining. Martin made a 3 and two free throws to tie it at 48.

Jenkins hit a 3-pointer from the corner to give the Tigers a 51-50 lead. Khalen Pinkett added another 3 and Jenkins made two free throws and Savannah State had a six-point lead with 22 seconds left.
