Oliver, Nevada beat Vermont 86-72 in CBI quarterfinals

RENO, Nev. (AP) Cameron Oliver scored 23, on 9-of-16 shooting, with 11 rebounds, and D.J. Fenner had 21 points to lead Nevada to an 86-72 win over Vermont in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational Tournament on Wednesday night.

Marqueze Coleman made 6 of 7 field goals and finished with 20 points for Nevada, while Tyron Criswell scored 11.

Trae Bell-Haynes hit a pair of free throws to pull Vermont (23-14) within six midway through the second half, but Coleman converted a 3-point play to ignite an 11-4 spurt that gave the Wolfpack (22-13) a 64-51 lead with eight minutes to play.

The Catamounts trailed by double figures the rest of the way.

Nevada will face Morehead State in a best-of-three series, which starts next Monday, for the tournament championship.

Bell-Haynes and Ernie Duncan led Vermont with 19 points apiece. Drew Urquhart scored 12 on 5-of-7 shooting.

The Wolfpack, who never trailed, made 28 of 53 (53 percent) field goals, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range, and attempted nearly twice as many free throws (33) than Vermont (17). Nevada limited the Catamounts to 39 percent (26-of-67) shooting from the field.

Oliver has scored in double figures in each of the last 10 games. The freshman reached double digits 12 times in the first 25 games.
