Michigan AD open to scheduling Notre Dame football games in future
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel says he open to the possibility of scheduling football with Notre Dame in the future, according to Dan Murphy of ESPN.
The rivalry, which dates back to 1887, has not been contested since 2014, when the Fighting Irish blanked the Wolverines 31–0 in Sound Bend, Ind. No future contest is currently scheduled between the two schools.
The Fighting Irish announced they were pulling out of the rivalry in 2012.
Notre Dame has remained independent in football but contests all other sports, except hockey, in the Atlantic Coast Conference. As a result, the football team has scheduled games with at least five ACC opponents each season.
Michigan holds the advantage in the head-to-head meetings between the schools with a 24–17–1 record.

The two schools took a 35–year hiatus when they did not play after their 1943 meeting until 1978.
Notre Dame has scheduled a home-and-home series against Ohio State for 2022 and 2023.
