Florida Gators coach Jim McElwain has been given a $750,000 raise in annual compensation, the school announced Friday.
The salary increase went into effect on Feb. 1.
McElwain went 10–4 in his first season as head coach at Florida, a three-win improvement from the Gators’ 2014 campaign. McElwain was buoyed by a strong 7–1 record in conference play, and led the team to a Citrus Bowl berth against Michigan.
McElwain’s initially signed a six-year, $21 million deal. The average annual value of his contract is now more than $4 million.
The highest-paid coach in college football also works in the SEC—Alabama’s Nick Saban, who earned more than $7 million last season.
