Mick Cronin to remain head coach at Cincinnati

Cincinnati Bearcats coach Mick Cronin will remain with the school, university president Santa J. Ono announced Friday.
Cronin had been rumored to be favored for the head coaching job at UNLV, where Dave Rice was fired in the middle of the regular season.
Cronin has been the head coach at Cincinnati since 2006, tallying a 207–129 record in his decade leading the program. This season, he took the Bearcats to NCAA tournament for the sixth straight season, losing to St. Joseph’s in the Round of 64.
Cronin took over a struggling Cincinnati program after years of success at Murray State, going from a 11–19 record in 2006–07 to a 26-win season in 2010–11. The Bearcats had their best NCAA tournament finish in 2012, making an appearance in the Sweet 16.

“I would like people to try and understand after 10 years of dedicated service I chose to evaluate my career and my life,” Cronin said in a statement. “Reflecting through that process was extremely difficult, but it was something I needed to do for me personally. The city of Cincinnati and the University are special places to me and I’ve always said what an honor it is to be the head coach at my alma mater.”
