LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Wes Flanigan is Arkansas-Little Rock's new basketball coach. He succeeds Chris Beard, who left last week to become UNLV's coach.

Athletic director Chasse Conque announced the hiring Thursday. Flanigan spent this season as an assistant to Beard at UALR, his second stint as an assistant at the school.

UALR won the Sun Belt Conference and finished with a school-record 30 wins this season. The Trojans defeated Purdue in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Iowa State in the second round.

Flanigan has also coached at Mississippi State, UAB and Nebraska. He was a former All-Southeastern Conference selection as a player at Auburn and played in high school in Little Rock.
