PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) Karl Hobbs is leaving Connecticut's coaching staff to join Steve Pikiell at Rutgers.

Hobbs released a statement through Connecticut on Thursday night, confirming the move.

Pikiell, who worked under Hobbs for four seasons at George Washington, was named Rutgers coach last week. Pikiell and Hobbs are both former Connecticut players, team captains and long-time friends.

Hobbs finished his 13th season as a Connecticut assistant, covering two stints: 1993-2001 and 2011-16. In between, he served as the head coach at George Washington University, directing the Colonials to 166 wins, two Atlantic 10 Tournament titles and three straight NCAA Tournament berths.
