Geno Auriemma named AP Coach of the Year for the eighth time

UConn women's basketball head coach Geno Auriemma was named the Associated Press' Women's Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career.
Since arriving in Storrs in 1985, Auriemma has compiled a 951-134 record, which is the best winning percentage in women's basketball. Auriemma previously won the AP honors in 1995, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Auriemma broke down in tears as he received the award on Saturday. He noted this season was different than all others and “It's because of you, CD.”
In addition to the AP honors, Auriemma has also named the United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year and Pat Summitt Trophy winner.

The Huskies are the lone unbeaten team in the women's NCAA tournament with their 34-0 record. They will play Oregon State on Sunday for a spot in the championship game.
Auriemma is just two wins away from winning a record 11th national championship, which would move him UCLA men's coach John Wooden for the most all-time in college basketball history.
