Report: Maryland’s Diamond Stone to declare for NBA draft

Maryland’s freshman center Diamond Stone will declare for the NBA draft, reports Cleveland.com’s Chris Haynes.
According to Stone’s father, however, the younger Stone has not yet made a decision about the NBA.
“I don’t know anybody in Cleveland,” Bob Stone said. “I don’t know what they’re talking about.
“There’s a lot of people out there who like to talk, but we haven’t told anybody anything. We’re still evaluating.”
According to Haynes’s report, the first-round prospect will not hire an agent, and thus will remain eligible to play at Maryland if he pulls out of the draft by May 25. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reports, however, that Stone is not expected to return to Maryland despite not signing with an agent.
In his freshman season, Stone averaged 12.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Terrapins. Stone was named the AP’s Big Ten Newcomer of the Year, and was also a third-team All-Big Ten selection and an All-Freshman honoree.

This season, Stone helped Maryland advance to its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2003.
