Former UConn star Marshall to coach Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) Former UConn basketball player Donyell Marshall has been hired as head coach at Central Connecticut.

Marshall replaces Howie Dickenman, who retired following a 4-25 season, his 20th season at the school.

Central officials said they would introduce Marshall at a news conference on Thursday.

Marshall played for 15 seasons in the NBA, averaging 11.2 points and 6.7 rebounds for eight teams. He also has been an assistant coach in both professional and college basketball, most recently serving as recruiting coordinator at the University at Buffalo.

''It is exciting to come back to Connecticut - a place I consider my second home,'' Marshall said in a statement.
