Florida State RB Dalvin Cook has shoulder surgery

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Florida State running back Dalvin Cook had shoulder surgery on Tuesday but should be ready for the start of preseason practices in August.

Coach Jimbo Fisher made the announcement on Wednesday. Fisher said that the procedure to Cook's right back labrum was to clean up some stuff that had been bothering him. Cook had surgery to the right front labrum two years ago.

Fisher noted that Cook should be ready by late June. Cook, who will be a junior, set a school single-season rushing record with 1,691 yards last year and had six games of 150 yards or more. He finished seventh in Heisman balloting and should be in the mix as one of the top contenders this upcoming season.

With Cook sidelined, Jacques Patrick and Ryan Green are expected to get most of the carries during Saturday's spring game in Orlando.
