Valparaiso has hired assistant Matt Lottich as its next head coach, the university announced Thursday.

Lottich replaces Bryce Drew, who recently left to take over as the coach at Vanderbilt. Lottich was hired as an assistant before the 2013 season, after playing professionally in Europe and working as a scout for the National Collegiate Scouting Association.

A Chicago-area native, Lottich played four seasons of college basketball at Stanford.

Drew got his start as a college coach with Valparaiso, being hired as an assistant in 2005. He was promoted to head coach in 2011.

In five seasons leading the Crusaders, Drew went 125–49, including two NCAA tournament appearances.
