Bobby Petrino, Louisville agree to seven-year contract

Louisville has signed head coach Bobby Petrino to a seven-year contract, the university announced Thursday.
The deal is worth a total of $30.625 million through 2023.
Petrino, 55, returned to the helm of Louisville’s program in 2014 after going 41–9 while with the Cardinals from 2003–2006. Over the last two seasons, Petrino has led Louisville to a 17–9 record and two straight bowl appearances.
“He has exceeded my expectations on the field, especially closing last year with a win in the Music City Bowl over a talented Texas A&M team,” Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said in a release. “I think the future of this program is extremely bright, and I’m excited that with this extension, Bobby has reinforced his commitment to the University of Louisville.”
Petrino, who has also been the head coach of the Arkansas and Western Kentucky programs, had a quick coaching stint in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, during which he posted a 3–10 record.
