N.C. A&T spring game ends in tie

(STATS) - North Carolina A&T's annual spring game ended Saturday with the type of score that many coaches may prefer in an intrasquad matchup - a 14-14 tie.

What coach Rod Broadway would prefer is if both sides come together to win a third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title.

For the first time, this year's Blue & Gold game in Greensboro featured the first-team offense and the second-team defense (Blue) against the first-team defense and the second-team offense (Gold). Tarik Cohen, the two-time MEAC offensive player of the year, did not participate in the game.

Sophomore quarterback Lamar Raynard had a touchdown pass for each team, a 26-yarder to Virginia Tech transfer Carlis Parker (for the Blue) and an 84-yard bomb to sophomore receiver Malik Wilson (for the Gold).

Sophomore Keevin Thompson scored on an 18-yard run for the Gold. Also, Oluwafemi Bamiro threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Denzel Keyes for the Blue.

North Carolina A&T finished with a 10-2 record last season - only the program's third season of 10 or more wins in a 92-year history. The Aggies tied for a second straight MEAC title with Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina Central and went on to beat SWAC champion Alcorn State, 41-34, in the inaugural Celebration Bowl.

They return nine starters on offense and six on defense. While Raynard played a lot behind center, Kylil Carter also came on strong and is competing to be the No. 1 quarterback.

The Aggies open their 2016 schedule on Sept. 3 by hosting St. Augustine. They will then visit two FBS opponents, Kent State (Sept. 10) and Tulsa (Sept. 17), before embarking on their MEAC schedule.
