Former Notre Dame tight end Chase Hounshell announced Monday he is transferring to Ohio State.

Hounshell, an Ohio native, is entering his sixth collegiate season. Hounshell was given an extra year of eligibility after playing in only one game between 2012 and 2013 due to shoulder injuries.

Hounshell initially played as a defensive end for the Fighting Irish, lining up on the defensive side of the ball in his true freshman season. He continued to play defensive end after returning from his injury in 2014.

Last season, Hounshell switched to tight end and played in 13 games, catching one pass for six yards.

Hounshell originally committed to Ohio State coach Urban Meyer when he was head coach at Florida in 2010, but he eventually switched his commitment to Notre Dame.
