Arizona guard Justin Simon will transfer to St. John’s, the school announced Thursday.

Simon, a 6'5" guard, rated as a five-star prospect in the class of 2015 according to Scout.com. He played in 24 games as a freshman at Arizona. He will sit out next season and be eligible for 2017-18.

“Justin is an explosive player who we believe will develop well in our program,” said Red Storm head coach Chris Mullin. “He’s an instinctive playmaker with good court vision and he distributes the ball well. We are glad Justin chose St. John’s for the next chapter of his basketball career.”

“Having the opportunity to play for a Hall of Famer who has surrounded himself with an incredible staff that is all about getting their guys better was a huge draw in my decision to continue my college career at St. John’s,” said Simon. “I feel like I can be myself at St. John’s and reach my full basketball potential.”

A native of Temecula, Calif., Simon finished his high school career at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. His transfer is the second high-profile addition for the Red Storm in two days, with Michigan State sophomore forward Marvin Clark announcing his intentions to transfer on Wednesday.
