Texas Tech has dismissed three student-athletes from its football program, the university announced on Thursday morning.

Sophomore offensive lineman Robert Castaneda, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Trace Ellison and sophomore linebacker Dakota Allen have been removed from the roster and will not be allowed to participate in any team activities.

The players have been dismissed from the team after “a failure to uphold student-athlete expectations.” No further comment was given by head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Castandea and Allen were being considered for starting roles in 2016-17.

The Red Raiders are coming off a 7–6 season with a 4–5 record in the Big 12 conference.
