Four-star QB Kellen Mond decommits from Baylor

Baylor quarterback commit Kellen Mond has decommitted from the program, he announced Wednesday.
Mond’s decision comes in the wake of the university’s suspension with the “intent to terminate” head football coach Art Briles last week, and the controversy over the school’s handling of rape allegations involving football players. A school-commissioned investigation by law firm Pepper Hamilton found that heads of the football program had purposefully failed to report a pattern of sexual violence among its players.
“After further discussion with my family, I have made the decision to decommit from Baylor University,” Mond wrote. “When I committed last summer, the primary basis was due to having the leadership of Art Briles and Kendall Briles as a great football foundation. Although this decision has been difficult, I would like to sincerely thank the tremendous Baylor fans and community for their support during this recruiting process.
Mond, a four-star quarterback, is the 11th-ranked signal caller in the class of 2017, according to Scout.com. The Texas native and IMG Academy player had been committed to Baylor team since last June.

Mond originally chose the Bears over offers from Auburn, Ohio State, Texas A&M and several others. Following Briles’s firing, Baylor now has just one remaining player committed in the 2017 class.
