Jeremy Foley has announced his retirement after 24 years as Florida's athletic director, the university announced.
“I wanted to be general manager of the Red Sox. I ended up being general manger of the Gators,” Foley said in a press release. “You always want to leave an organization in good shape. Right now, we obviously have a great group of coaches, we have had a good year and we've got things moving in the right direction. I just think that makes it a good time to transition."
Foley’s contract will allow him to remain as the Emeritus Athletics Director. Foley’s retirement will take effect on Oct. 1.
Under his leadership, the Gators have won 27 national titles in 13 different sports. Most recently, the men’s track and field team captured the NCAA title in Eugene, Ore. on Friday night.

Foley is the only athletic director in Division I history to lead a university to multiple national championships in football and men’s basketball. The Gators football team won in 1996, 2006 and 2008. The men’s basketball team cut down the nets in 2006 and 2007.
