Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham announced Thursday that he will transfer.

“After careful thought and consideration, I am announcing my decision to transfer from Baylor University,” Stidham wrote in a Twitter post. “I would like to thank my teammates, friends, family and fellow students for the support throughout my career thus far. Also, I want to thank the coaching staff that brought me here and gave me this opportunity to play. This has been a difficult decision, but I wish nothing but the best to my teammates and Baylor Football in the future.”

Stidham was a highly touted recruit and made starts as a true freshman in relief of injured Seth Russell. He led Baylor to a win against Kansas State and finished the season with 1,265 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions in 10 total games. The Bears now have just Russell and incoming freshman Zach Smith on scholarship at quarterback.

In May,Stidhamsaid he planned to remain with the Baylor program despite a flurry of firings, transfers, releases and resignations stemming from the university and athletic department's handling of rape allegations by student athletes. A large part of the team’s incoming recruiting class has decided to go elsewhere.
