Ex-Baylor DE Shawn Oakman indicted on sexual assault charge

Former Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman was indicted on one count of sexual assault Wednesday, according to the Waco Tribune.
Oakman, 24, was arrested on April 13 after a woman alleged she was sexually assaulted by Oakman on April 3.
According to a police affidavit, Oakman is accused of forcibly removing the alleged victim’s clothes, forcing her onto his bed and sexually assaulting her. Oakman told police that the sex was consensual.

Oakman’s attorney, Michelle Tuegel, told the Tribune that he “maintains his innocence.”
The defensive end is Baylor’s all-time sack leader. Once considered a top NFL prospect, he went undrafted after his arrest.
Baylor has come under fire in recent months for its handling of sexual assault allegations, particularly those against football players. Oakman was not enrolled at the University at the time of the alleged incident, having graduated in December.
