Son charged with killing of ex-Texas A&M star Antonio Armstrong, wife
The 16-year-old son of former Texas A&M and Dolphin linebacker Antonio Armstrong has been charged with the murder of his father and mother after the couple were shot in their home in Texas early Friday morning.
Armstrong died after he was taken to the hospital by paramedics with a gunshot wound to the head, while his wife Dawn was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Houston‘s KPRC-2.
Police have charged the unnamed teenaged son with capital murder and are currently questioning the high school student regarding the events of Friday, according to various reports.
R.C. Slocum, who coached the Aggies during Armstrong’s time with the team, released a statement about his former player:
“Antonio was a special young man. He was an All-American and an outstanding player, but he was an even better person. He was such a positive influence on his teammates. He always had a great big smile and was a joy to coach.”
No motive for the shooting has been provided by authorities, and investigating officer Jimmy Dodson of the Houston Police Department described the Armstrongs, who had three children, as an “All-American family” and noted that Antonio worked as an associate pastor at a local church.
Armstrong starred on the Texas A&M defense from 1991–94 and earned All-American honors as a senior. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers but was cut before the season began, eventually signing with the Dolphins and appearing in four games for the team in 1995.
