Report: DA seeking full access to Pepper Hamilton investigation into Baylor
The McLennan County district attorney’s office in Waco, Texas is seeking complete access to the Pepper Hamilton investigation into Baylor University’s handling of sexual assault allegations, according to ESPN.
The DA’s office has reportedly informally requested access to the report in order to gain information regarding further crimes committed by student-athletes.
Last month, former Baylor Bears defensive end Shawn Oakman was indicted on charges of second-degree felony assault. Former defensive end Tevin Elliott was convicted of sexual assault in 2014, and defensive end Sam Ukwuachu was convicted of the same crime in 2015.
In addition to additional knowledge of crimes committed by student-athletes, prosecutors also want to determine if evidence points to criminal conduct by Baylor staff members or coaches relating to the sexual assaults committed by students.
The Big 12 requested access to the reports in June, but the university said that the complete findings were only presented orally, meaning there is no copy. A former Baylor employee also requested that the report be made public after he was fired as a result of the investigation.
Baylor lineman Rami Hammad was arrested Monday for felony stalking. He is currently suspended from all team activities.
