Penn State to honor Joe Paterno before Sept. 17 game vs. Temple
Penn State plans to honor longtime head coach Joe Paterno before the team's game against Temple on Sept. 17, according to the athletic department's promotional schedule.
The tribute will honor the 50th anniversary of Paterno's first game as the Nittany Lions head coach. Paterno served as the head coach from 1966 to 2011.
After a sex abuse scandal involving Paterno's assistant Jerry Sandusky emerged in November 2011, Paterno was fired as head coach and died shortly after in January 2012. An investigation later concluded that Paterno concealed facts relating to Sandusky's sex abuse. The Paterno family has disputed his involvement in covering up the scandal.

Paterno had some wins vacated by the NCAA and holds a 409–136–3 career record with Penn State.
The Sept. 17 game will kick off at noon ET.
