Arizona State to start Manny Wilkins in opener

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Arizona State coach Todd Graham has named sophomore Manny Wilkins as the team's starting quarterback.

Graham told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Friday that Wilkins will start Saturday night against Northern Arizona, but added the quarterback competition with redshirt freshman Brady White is not over.

Arizona State is one of two FBS schools (with Tulane) to enter the season without a quarterback on the roster who has thrown a pass in college. Wilkins and White started spring football in a competition with Bryce Perkins before separating themselves in fall camp.

Wilkins played sparingly as Mike Bercovici's backup last season, running seven times for 55 yards.
