Sam Houston State rolls over Oklahoma Panhandle State 59-21

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Jeremiah Briscoe threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns as Sam Houston State beat Oklahoma Panhandle State 59-21 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Bearkats tallied a school record 668 total yards, breaking the previous mark of 653 set in a 48-21 win over Colgate on Dec. 12, 2015.

Sam Houston State put the game away in the second quarter on Tre Honshtein's 23-yard field goal, a 21-yard touchdown pass from Briscoe to Avery and Javin Webb's 9-yard touchdown run to make it 38-14.

The Division II Aggies were competitive early. Devyn Williams returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, cutting Sam Houston's lead to 14-7. The Bearkats responded immediately driving 76 yards to score in 1:08 after Corey Avery's 15-yard touchdown run.

The Aggies answered 66 seconds later, as Shane Truelove threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Hernandez, making it 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Hernandez had seven receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
