Hodges leads Samford past Central Arkansas 35-29

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) Devlin Hodges threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns and Samford held off Central Arkansas' fourth-quarter rally, beating the Bears 35-29 on Saturday night.

Samford (2-0) led 35-10 when Tonne Osaigbovo intercepted Hayden Hildebrand and returned it for a 57-yard score with 3:53 left in the third.

Antwon Wells capped a 17-play, 75-yard drive with 3-yard run with 12:24 to play cutting the deficit to 35-16. Then Central Arkansas (1-1) put together an 8-play, 85-yard drive ending again with Wells running it in from 3 yards to make it 35-22. Both 2-point conversions failed.

Hildebrand next found Desmond Smith on an 18-yard score to reduce the deficit to six with 2:11 left.

On their final possession, the Bears advanced to their 41 but a delay of game penalty and three incomplete passes ended the contest.

Hildebrand had 346 yards passing but also threw two picks. Jatavious Wilson and Smith combined for 15 catches and 267 yards receiving.
