Mark Emmert wants NCAA power to punish schools, athletes for sexual abuse
NCAA president Mark Emmert would like to see changes made for the NCAA to give it the power to punish schools and athletes in connection with sexual abuse cases, he told CBS This Morning.
"That same board is in the midst of formulating whether or not that policy should become an enforceable rule, a rule that would allow the national association to go in and punish schools specifically," Emmert said.
The comments come just months after a wide-ranging sexual assault scandal rocked Baylor University and included numerous football players. Head coach Art Briles and several other university officials were fired from their respective positions.

On Tuesday, a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student went public with claims she was sexually assaulted by a member of the football team in February. The university said it could not respond to specific allegations due to federal law, but the named player, junior linebacker Allen Artis, has been indefinitely suspended by the team.
