Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Greg Schiano hit a bicyclist with his car near campus on Thursday, a school spokesperson said.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the accident happened before 7 a.m. The crash was near the Ohio State practice facility and is under investigation by Columbus authorities.

Schiano was not injured in the crash, but the accident victim was in stable condition after being hospitalized for a head injury, according to the newspaper.

"From a university perspective, our concern is with the young man who was injured," said Chris Davey, assistant vice president for media relations. "Our focus is on offering all the support for that individual that we can at this time."

Schiano, a former coach with Rutgers and the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is in his first year as an assistant with the second-ranked Buckeyes, who are off this week and return to action on Oct. 1 against Rutgers.
