The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Syracuse Orange are set to meet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., for the 2016 Shamrock Series.

Notre Dame's playoff hopes are over after dropping their third game of the season with a 38–35 loss to Duke last week. The defeat forced change, as Notre Dame fired defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder. DeShone Kizer is expected to start at quarterback as he finished last week 22-for-37 with 381 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also led the team in rushing with 11 carries for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Syracuse has drawn even to .500 on the year with their second win of the season. Wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo caught 12 passes to set a school record with 270 yards and two touchdowns as the Orange defeated UConn 31–24 last week. Quarterback Eric Dungey completed 26-of-40 passes for 407 yards and two touchdowns.
