LSU tiger mascot Mike VI dies after cancer battle

Mike VI has passed away after a four-month battle with cancer.

LSU's live tiger mascot Mike VI has passed away after a four-month battle with cancer, the university announced.

Mike the Tiger, a Bengal-Siberian mix, was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma in June and last week it was announced that a tumor near his nose that has continued to grow.

University doctors believed he would be able to live another month or two but he was humanely euthanized on Tuesday.

The university will not hold a formal memorial service for Mike VI but asks fans to share their memories of him on social media.

A search for the next young male tiger to serve as the mascot is underway. Previous live mascots have been donated from a rescue facility.
