Arizona's Ray Smith injures leg in exhibition opener

Arizona redshirt freshman Ray Smith, who tore both ACLs the previous two seasons, suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury in the 10th-ranked Wildcats' exhibition game Tuesday night.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona redshirt freshman Ray Smith, who tore both ACLs the previous two seasons, suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury in the 10th-ranked Wildcats' 86-35 exhibition victory over College of Idaho on Tuesday night.

Smith returned after being injured twice early in the game, but had to be carried to the locker room after a non-contact injury in the second half.

Arizona coach Sean Miller said he did not know the extent of Smith's injury, but ''It didn't look good.''

The 6-foot-8 forward from Las Vegas was a key member of Miller's highly touted recruiting class a year ago despite missing his senior season in high school with a torn left ACL.

Smith did not play for Arizona last season, though, after tearing his right ACL.
