Linebacker suspended following arrest on misdemeanor charges

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) The Oregon Ducks have suspended linebacker Eddie Heard indefinitely following his arrest on misdemeanor assault and harassment charges.

The University of Oregon Police Department said in a release that Heard punched a woman in the face outside of a Eugene bar early Sunday morning. There were multiple witnesses, the release said.

Heard was arrested Wednesday night and remained in custody at the Lane County jail before his scheduled arraignment on Thursday. He faces charges of fourth-degree assault and harassment, both misdemeanors.

Heard, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound reserve, has appeared in all eight games for the Ducks this season.

Coach Mark Helfrich announced Heard's indefinite suspension in a statement Thursday morning.
