San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly told reporters that he is not interested in the opening at Oregon after Mark Helfrich was fired on Tuesday night.

Kelly was asked if there was any chance that he would become the next Oregon head coach. He shook his head and said, "No."

Kelly and the 49ers are 1–10 in his first year as head coach in San Francisco. He previously served as the Ducks' head coach from 2009 to 2012.

Kelly spoke with Helfrich on Wednesday morning but has not been in contact with anyone at the university to assist with the search for the next head coach.

Fired by Oregon, Mark Helfrich was a victim of his own success

“I love everybody associated with the university. They were fantastic,” Kelly said. “If I can help them, I can help them. My thoughts are with Helf right now.”
