Portland State to open 2017 season at BYU

(STATS) - Big Sky Conference member Portland State will have an early kickoff to its 2017 schedule with a first-ever meeting against BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.

The game is set for Aug. 26, 2017 - a week before the season's traditional opening night on Aug. 31. BYU was granted an NCAA exception that provides FBS teams that play in Hawaii an opportunity to schedule a 13th regular-season game. The Cougars will play at Hawaii on Nov. 25.

Portland State finished 3-8 under coach Bruce Barnum this season after going 9-3 and reaching the FCS playoffs last year. The Vikings, who will announce their complete schedule later this week, will have five home games and six road games in 2017 with two bye weeks due to the early start to the season.
