Watch: Oregon introduces Willie Taggart as new head coach

Willie Taggart expressed enthusiasm and confidence during his introductory press conference as Oregon's new head coach.

EUGENE, Ore. — Wille Taggart entered the theater at Oregon football's Hatfield-Dowlin Complex with a surprised look. He smiled, titled his head back and let out a "Woooow!"

Oregon cited Taggart's enthusiasm as a selling point in its first hire from outside the program since 1976. Taggart said he will hit the ground running. He plans to start recruiting immediately before the NCAA's dead period begins on Dec. 12.

"I tell everyone here to dare to be different," Taggart said. "We have to continue to be that way."

Taggart was introduced to a room full of athletic department employees, fellow Oregon coaches and media on Wednesday, just about 24 hours after the program announced his hiring.

"He's full of enthusiasm," Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said. "He connects with players. He's got connections on the west coast. ... He's really about changing young peoples' lives during their time here. He also has a strong belief that we can win football games."
