DA dismisses battery charges against Kansas forward Carlton Bragg
A district attorney has dismissed domestic battery charges against Kansas forward Carlton Bragg, instead charging his girlfriend after police reviewed surveillance video of their altercation, Fox 4 Kansas City reports.
The Douglas County DA charged 19-year-old Saleeha Soofi with one count of battery for the Dec. 9 incident. Soofi told investigators Bragg punched her and shoved her down stairs, which Bragg denied. He was arrested on suspicion Friday and suspended indefinitely from the Jayhawks’ team. Soofi later admitted she “may have” hit first during the argument between the two.
A release Wednesday stated that video shows Soofi shoving and slapping Bragg and also placing her hands near his neck. He “forcefully” shoved her away from him afterward and she fell backward onto a flight of ascending stairs.
“This has been a difficult and humiliating experience for me, and I’m glad it’s over,” Bragg said in a statement. “I appreciate the authorities taking the time to get this right. I also appreciate the support of my teammates and coaches, and I’m glad I can put this behind me and move forward.”
Bragg, a sophomore forward, is averaging 7.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
