Texas Rio Grande Valley pulls away early in 2nd, beats Lamar

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Antonio Green scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to lead Texas Rio Grande Valley over Lamar 95-81 on Friday night.

Green was 5 of 10 from the field and made three 3-pointers. Xavier McDaniel Jr. and Lesley Varner Jr. had 15 points apiece for the Vaqueros (5-8), who shot 59 percent on 37-of-63 shooting. Nick Dixon had a career-best eight assists and chipped in 12 points.

Zjori Bosha scored 18 points to lead Lamar (5-5). Colton Weisbrod and Joey Frenchwood each finished with 14 points. The Cardinals, who have lost four of their last five games, made just 22 of 36 free throws.

Nick Garth made a 3-pointer to give Lamar its last lead, 50-47 with 15:41 to play. The Vaqueros used a 21-3 run to take a 69-53 lead midway through the second half, and the Cardinals didn't get closer. Varner and McDaniel scored seven points apiece during the stretch.
