UConn Women Stomp St. Francis (PA) 140–52, Setting NCAA Tournament Scoring Record
The Connecticut women's basketball team is on a mission after last year’s Final Four loss to Mississippi State, and they took out their frustrations from last March on their first-round opponent, St. Francis (PA), in their NCAA tournament opener on Saturday.
The Huskies routed the Red Flash 140–52, setting the NCAA tournament record for points in a game, the NCAA record for points in a quarter, the NCAA tournament record for points in a half and assists in a game, and the NCAA record for points in a half. They also set a program record for most points in a game.
The 88-point win is the second largest in history in either the men's or women's tournament. Baylor’s women’s team beat Texas Southern by 89 last year.
UConn, the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s field, shot 65% from the field and had six players in double figures, led by reserve forward Azura Stevens, who had 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
