Nick Weatherspoon Suffered No Structural Damage to Knee vs. Alabama
Mississippi State guard Nick Weatherspoon did not suffer a tear or structural damage to his knee during Tuesday night's contest against Alabama, a team spokesman said, per CBS' Jon Rothstein.
Weatherspoon left the Bulldogs' game against Alabama just before halftime on Tuesday night and did not return.
Bulldogs head coach Ben Howland told reporters after the game that Weatherspoon would undergo an MRI on Wednesday and said he's "very concerned" about the guard's injury. Howland also shared that doctors do not think it's an ACL injury but could be related to Weatherspoon's patella.
"Nick knew something was wrong as soon as he landed," Howland said, per The Clarion-Ledger's Tyler Horka.
Weatherspoon suffered the injury when attempting a dunk. The ball hit the rim and Weatherspoon landed awkwardly on the court. He was seen clutching his left knee in pain before being carried off the court to the locker room.
Before taking the fall, Weatherspoon scored seven points with four rebounds and one assist against the Crimson Tide. He was also 3-for-6 from the field. After halftime, Weatherspoon returned to the bench and had his knee wrapped in ice.
The Crimson Tide handed the No. 22 Bulldogs their fifth loss of the season with a 83–79 defeat Tuesday night.
