No. 7 Oregon survived last weekend with a dramatic 37-35 win over Washington State to keep hope alive of a possible spot in the College Football Playoff. The Ducks' (7-1, 5-0) resume for a one-loss team is decent, but close games like that might not have helped their cause. The Ducks relinquished the lead with around a minute to go in the game, but drove 53 yards in seven plays to set up freshman kicker Camden Lewis for the game-winning 26-yard field goal as time expired. Running back CJ Verdell had a career game against the Cougars, rushing for 257 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns. Oregon’s passing attack is nothing to scoff at either. Behind Justin Herbert, the team ranks 31st in the nation in passing offense with 275.9 yards per game.

USC (5-3, 4-1) has a lot riding on the outcome of this one, too. The race in the South division is tight with 7-1 Utah neck-and-neck with it. A loss at home to Oregon could derail its chances of getting to the Pac-12 Championship game. The Trojans are also coming off a close win. They topped Colorado, 35-31, thanks to 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Kedon Slovis had a sensational performance against the Buffaloes, throwing for over 400 yards with four touchdowns and a lone interception. The freshman playmaker will need another big showing if USC is to pull off the win against Oregon.
