Optimism was high around the Fighting Irish as recently as a week ago. They were a Top 10 team with only one close loss to Georgia and still had an outside shot at making the College Football Playoff. Those hopes were ruthlessly dashed by the Michigan Wolverines when they smashed Notre Dame, 45-14, handing the team a second loss. The disappointment of the loss and all of the ramifications that come along with it are obvious. However, Notre Dame must not lose its focus. It’s crucial that they rebound and get back on track to ensure themselves a place in a top bowl game.

The Irish came into their game with Michigan as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country. However, they were only able to manage 180 yards of total offense en route to the lopsided loss. Quarterback Ian Book completed just eight passes in the entire game for 73 yards. If Notre Dame is to rebound, it’ll have to avoid more inept offensive performances like the last one.

Virginia Tech enjoyed a bye week last week after a thrilling overtime win over North Carolina the previous week. Quincy Patterson II enjoyed an all-around great performance, rushing for 122 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for one in just six pass attempts. Unfortunately for the Hokies, they are at the bottom of the ACC Coastal division despite their nice 5-2 overall record.
