For the Sooners, it's all about showing how good they are for the College Football Playoff committee after a shocking upset to No. 20 Kansas State. Oklahoma gave up 48 points, 426 total yards in the loss. Those figures were season-highs and something Alex Grinch’s group will use as motivation this week.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts has carried the workload for the Sooners offense through eight games this season, yet the team needs to show that more than just Hurts can beat Iowa State. The Sooners boast one of the deepest and most talented groups of running backs in the nation, yet Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks were nearly absent from the box score.
The Cyclones are looking to repeat history after coming to Norman in 2017 and getting a shocking 38–31 win. The team will need to tap into that same mindset from two years ago to have a shot at beating the Sooners. The Cyclones came up short against the Oklahoma State Cowboys two weeks ago, falling 34–27. Quarterback Brock Purdy has thrown 15 touchdowns and only 11 teams in the nation have a higher passing play percentage than Iowa State.
