With just a handful of games left in the season, Saturday's game between Michigan State and Michigan features two teams headed in completely different directions. Michigan has won five of its last six games, while the Spartans have dropped four in a row.

The Wolverines have had two weeks to prepare for the Spartans after a bye last weekend. Michigan (7–2, 4–2) dominated Maryland on Nov. 2. Since a 28–21 loss to Penn State on Oct. 19, the Wolverines have outscored opponents 83–21, including a 45–14 win over Notre Dame on Oct. 26. On defense against Maryland, the Wolverines were led by Josh Metellus, who had eight tackles, and Joshua Uche's two sacks.
Things just keep getting worse for Michigan State (4–5, 2–4). The team took a tight 37–34 loss to Illinois last weekend, after surrendering a 21-point third-quarter lead. The Illini outscored the Spartans 27-3 in the fourth quarter. They tallied 526 yards of offense and 275 rushing yards, but couldn’t hold a lead. Quarterback Brian Lewerke had a tough night, throwing three interceptions and just one touchdown. Elijah Collins and Cody White were bright spots for the Spartans. Collins ran for 170 yards, while White had 128 yards receiving.
The Wolverines won last year's meeting, 21–7, in East Lansing and have won two of the last three games. Michigan leads the all-time series, 70–36–5, but has dropped its last two home games to the Spartans.
