Alabama Hires Ken Whisenhunt As Special Assistant

Former NFL coach Ken Whisenhunt has been added to Alabama’s staff directory, listed as special assistant to coach Nick Saban.

Whisenhunt, an offensive analyst at Penn State for the last two seasons, replaces now-North Texas special teams coordinator Drew Svoboda. He will reunite with one of his former quarterbacks from his pro coaching days and his son-in-law, Zach Mettenberger, who is now an analyst for the Crimson Tide.

Whisenhunt coached the Cardinals from 2007 to ’12, guiding the Kurt Warner-led Arizona team to a Super Bowl XLIII appearance. He was fired after six seasons and a 45–51 record. He later coached the Titans for 23 games from the ’14 to ’15 seasons, though he was fired following Week 8 of ’15 after amassing a 3–20 record with the team.

He has also had stints with the Steelers (2004 to ’06) and Chargers (’13, ’16 to ’19) as offensive coordinator.
