Caitlin Clark Sets Mark For Most Threes in a Single NCAA Tournament
In the midst of one of the greatest seasons of all-time, Iowa star Caitlin Clark added another impressive accolade to her résumé less than two minutes into Sunday’s national championship game against LSU.
With another logo three-pointer, Clark, the reigning Naismith Player of the Year, notched her 25th made three of the tournament, breaking the NCAA tournament record for the most in a single tournament. The historic shot also happened to come on Clark’s first attempt of the day, signaling the dynamic guard could be in store for another big performance.
If her deep shot serves as a precursor of what’s to come, Clark could secure another accolade by the end of the first half. Clark entered the day needing just 17 points to break a 30-year record set by Texas Tech legend Sheryl Swoopes, whose 177 points in the 1993 tournament currently stands as the most points in a single NCAA Tournament all-time.
Clark’s historic start to Sunday’s big game extends her incredible run in this year’s tournament.
In Iowa’s Elite Eight win over Louisville, Clark became the first player in women’s tournament history to record a 40-point triple-double, finishing with 41 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. The 21-year-old followed that superb effort with a second 41-point outing in Iowa’s 77–73 national semifinal win over undefeated South Carolina on Friday.
