Georgia Football Team Declines White House Invitation
The Georgia football team has elected to not visit the White House to celebrate the program’s second College Football Playoff national championship.
The White House extended an invitation for the Bulldogs to visit Washington, D.C., on June 12. However, a spokesman from Georgia’s athletic department wrote in a statement that the date listed for the program to attend the White House was “not feasible” in consideration of the schedule for its student athletes.
“Unfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of the year,” the statement read. “However, we are appreciative of the invitation and look forward to other opportunities for Georgia teams moving forward.”
Georgia defeated TCU, 65-7, to capture its second consecutive CFP national title. The Bulldogs finished the season 15-0 and became the first team to repeat as national champions in the past 10 years.
Georgia scored the most points in a national title game, dating back to the start of the BCS era in the 1998 season. Georgia’s invitation to the White House comes a day after President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden announced that they would host the UConn’s men’s basketball team and LSU women’s basketball team to celebrate their national titles on May 26.
